I photographed this picture of an American white pelican down at the fishing pier in Placida, Florida. There was a fisherman catching fish in his cast net so there were quite a few white pelicans as well as brown pelicans. The pelicans all seemed to be enjoying their time swimming in the brackish water... pelicans are very social beings, and the white and brown ones were mingling with one another. Every now and then, the fisherman would toss a fish into the water and the race would be on as to who got the prize. White pelicans are at least 3 times the size as the brown ones so you can only imagine who won. It was a joyous and happy morning for me... one I would like to repeat.
